DOUBT Day 3 (February 23rd)

Isaiah 55:8, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.”

Part 1 – RIDICULOUS CERTAINTY: (12 minutes)

Part 2 – Discussion: (15 minutes)

  • We don’t like not knowing, but we also know we’ll never know everything. That doesn’t stop us from trying though. When it comes to our relationship with God, feeling certain about every little thing can distract from getting to know an infinite and divine God. When we try our hardest to eliminate doubt, it often gives doubt more power when it finds its way into our lives.

    • Is there a space you return to that makes you feel secure and certain? What is that space? Is it a movie, book, game, coffee shop?

    • Do you think what Nietzsche says about the church is true today? Do you think Christians today require certainty or are okay with doubt? Whatever your answer, what’s a reason for that answer?

    • Has there been a time where you had a doubt about God that was solved? Was it helpful finding an answer? Remember, knowing more about our Savior isn’t a bad thing!

    • Read Isaiah 55:6-11. God speaks to Isaiah and tells him that His ways and thoughts are higher. God is creating a distinction between himself and his creation. He is inviting Isaiah into a place of humility and trust. Spend some time in self-reflection and prayer and ask God to surprise in you in new ways this week, month, and year.

Part 5 – Comment and Prayer: (7 minutes)

  • Delegate someone in your group to send an email to Pastor John with a 2-3 sentence comment on today’s content (jessig@ecaoh.com).

  • Designate a prayer journal keeper so that you can pray for each other between meetings.

  • Spend your remaining time praying for each other.

Thank you!

Pastor John
