There’s something out of this world happening on the elementary playground at Emmanuel Christian Academy!
Thanks to the creativity and dedication of third-grade teacher Nicole Newman, and the teamwork a few of our elementary teachers to help with finishing touches, our students now have a colorful, space-themed sensory path that turns and ordinary stretch of blacktop into an adventure filled with movement, imagination and fun!
A Mission Worth Completing!
The project began over the summer when Mrs. Newman painted the original design, only to have an unexpected round of playground repaving take place just a few weeks later. But a little setback wasn’t going to keep this mission grounded! Mrs. Newman returned to bring the colorful planets, patterns and activities to life.
Learning Through Movement and Play
Sensory paths are designed to encourage children to engage in different types of movement, such as hopping, jumping, balancing, and following visual patterns. In addition to being really fun, these activities can help students to develop coordination, body awareness, and focus. And with a space theme to capture their imaginations, our Lions have a whole new way to enjoy active play!
Ready for Liftoff!
Of course, a project this fun deserves a proper celebration! Students and teachers gathered for an “official” ribbon-cutting ceremony, complete with oversized scissors, plenty of smiles and a happy crowd of students eager to try out the new playground feature. It didn’t take long for the colorful blacktop to be filled with students exploring, moving, and enjoying and the finished project.
We’re so grateful to Mrs. Newman for generously investing her time and creativity to make this a wonderful addition to our playground. These efforts are a beautiful example of the care and dedication our teachers bring to the ECA family, both inside and outside the classroom.
Mission: Playground is officially ready for liftoff!
